The fascinating art of kumihimo, or Japanese braiding, has centuries of colourful history. Used long ago to connect the armor of Samurai warriors as well as to fasten silk kimonos, this easy to learn technique has so many creative possibilities it's mindboggling. Join found-object artist Keith Lo Bue as he introduces you to one of his newest passions and how it applies to the mixed-media assemblage world. The first day of this brand-new three day workshop will get participants working with the kumihimo form, understanding its basics and exploring different shape, pattern and design possibilities. On the second and third days students will launch into and develop their own individual projects in which kumihimo will play a crucial role in combining and integrating a range of found materials brought by each student. There will be lots of hands-on instruction by Lo Bue as he guides participants to release their maximum creative potential in a thrilling new medium. |
