Neckpiece:
THE CHAPEL OF THE HERMITS.
2009

I have revisited the title used here several times in my 21 years of making, and each time it takes on a different perspective. This new neckpiece features a specimen of Sceliphron formosum, or the mud-dauber wasp. It is frozen, as if in amber, in a solid matrix of resin suffused with bubbles and tiny glass spheres. The piece reveals another element when brought in front of a light source - the wasp becomes haloed with light: a cruciform insect echoing the title. Wired into the chain are three fragments of antique clay pipes, dredged from the banks of the Thames in London.
